The film studio impulse to increase profits is always to tone down violence and dial up laughs, which they did here. Roy Thomas, who brought Conan to mainstream success with his Marvel Comics revival, and compatriot Gerry Conway provided the story here. Maybe most laudably, the sequel continued its diverse casting (begun with James Earl Jones and Mako) to include the unexpected Grace Jones and Wilt Chamberlain. The succession of warrior women, from Sandahl Bergman to Grace, would set the stage for the Red Sonja spin-off film that followed.
This is a pale imitation to the first film, relying on an expansion with new characters that add very little.
