Based on varied personal experiences, writer Mark Millar and artist John Romita Jr. thrashed that idea out across three mini-series (and a spin-off). Unusually, the film adaption was developed concurrently with the first arc, and in collaboration with the creators, offering an alternate route within the same story goalposts. Director Mathhew Vaughn stepped in fresh off of the franchise reboot, X-Men: First Class.
